A few dozen kilometres south of Lisbon, this region, bordered by the Atlantic and the Tagus and Sado rivers, has always had a special place in the history of Portuguese wines, mainly due to Setubal Moscatel. The slopes of the Serra da Arrábida protect the vineyards from the ocean winds and, outside the mountainous area, the landscape is dominated by small undulations or plains of sandy soil, where the famous and emblematic wines of this region are produced, which are hugely popular among Portuguese consumers.
