Despite the fact that cultivation of vines in the Alentejo dates back a long time, this was one of the last regions to be officially demarcated. Since then, it has undergone remarkable growth, and in recent decades the Alentejo has become a great wine region, both in terms of quantity and quality, and is today one of the most important regions in the country. With modern and well cared for vineyards, cutting edge oenology and producers oriented towards consumers, the Alentejo has all the ingredients to maintain this leading position for many years.
