Portuguese Attitude

The Dão region may be described as a plateau surrounded by several mountain ranges, offering unique conditions in terms of soil, climate and grape varieties and leading to great wines. Officially demarcated in 1908, the Dão region is one of the oldest wine regions of Portugal, and it was the religious orders, particularly the monks of the Cistercian Order, that spread the culture of the vineyard during the Middle Ages, which has expanded regularly since then. The Dão vineyards, planted on plateaus of shallow granitic soils, produce full-bodied wines with a high degree of potential for ageing in the bottle.
