Minho is the birthplace of wine typically marked by the extreme influence of the Atlantic, with a characteristic acidity, freshness and slight effervescence, certified with the centuries-old Designation of Origin Vinho Verde. It is also the birthplace of Portugal, as a country, and the vestiges of this rich history are everywhere, in the form of castles, churches and palaces. Vineyards are generally found on small plots of land and trellises, laid out horizontally around 2 metres above the ground, which provides more hours of sunshine and good health conditions.
